Secured (Postponed) Printing and the Follow-me Functionality

How can we make sure the print queue is printed only when the user is at the printer?

Secured printing, also called "postponed print" or "pull print", is a feature which allows you to actually print out your documents only when you authorise yourself with the SafeQ terminal at the printer. And more, your documents will be available at any compatible printer in the system.

Follow-me with SafeQ

elimination of undesired / unclaimed print

Thanks to the option of sending a print job from the server only upon user authentication by a user chip card at the network printer, you can decide at any time on which printer you want to print the documents. This extremely user-friendly function is called follow-me.

As SafeQ uses the follow-me function, it always checks the compatibility of the job to be "picked up" with the printer, particularly on the print language compatibility level.

The advantages of SafeQ secured print over "PIN print", as offered by some printers:

  • follow-me functionality
  • no hard drive must be installed in the printer
  • no risk of jobs being stolen if the hard drive is stolen from the printer
  • other ways of authentification than PIN available (e.g. cards that are already used elsewhere - for instance for attendance systems, building access etc.)
  • the job itself does not contain the PIN
  • no printer configuration is needed and no accounts for each user have to be created on every printer
